The deadline for submitting your paper tax return for the 2015/16 tax year is on 31 October 2016.
Individuals planning on sending their paper tax return to HMRC must do so no later than the deadline.
Any outstanding returns from the previous tax year you wish to submit on paper must also be done before or on 31 October to avoid any late penalties.
If individuals miss the deadline to submit a paper return for 2015/16 to HMRC, they still have the option to submit an electronic return by 31 January 2017.
Late Submission Penalties
If a paper tax return for the previous tax year is submitted after the October deadline, a maximum late penalty fine of £1600 (or £1,000 plus 10% of the tax due if greater) will be charged.
If you fail to submit your electronic tax return by the 31 January then a penalty of £100 will be charge if the return is up to 3 months late.
